Working Bee – Honeycomb bushland

October 9, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Because of the threat of floods, this weekend we’ll be focussing on improving the hilly country adjacent to the creek known as Honeycomb Bushland Reserve.

Please come along and help us look after this recovering landscape!

Date: Sunday 9th of October

Times: 10:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m.

Details:

Thanks to McKenzies Hill Action and Landcare group and our group advocacy , Mount Alexander Shire Council declared this patch of its own land as “Honeycomb Bushland Reserve”.  In partnership with Council, we’ve vastly improved its condition over the last decade or so.

The part we now call Spear Grass Valley was once a thicket of dense gorse.  In our most recent working bee there, we hoed out some of the more obvious gorse regeneration.  Subsequently, council organised treatment of the remainder with herbicide.

Today, we’ll attempt to knock off the few that were missed and attend to some other tasks: we’ll remove barbed wire from a redundant fence here and, hoe out gorse and bridal creeper here.

If you attend the landcare sticky beak tour on Saturday the 8th, you’ll hear a lot more about the history of this place and our achievements.  Today, we’ll be demonstrating how we achieved and, continue, that progress!

Meet: here at the north end of Honeycomb Road, Campbells Creek for a 10:00 a.m. start.  There’s plenty of space for car parking.

Wear: gloves (important!), sturdy footwear and clothing suitable for the weather (the forecast is for a cool, dry day).

Bring your own drinking water if you need it.  If you can, please bring a mattock.

We’ll supply everything else, including light refreshments afterwards.

Hope to see you there!
