May 2026 working bee for the Eltham Copper Butterfly

May 24 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Nationally endangered Eltham Copper Butterfly in Campbells Creek?  Yes, and some populations are only about 2 km from where we’re expanding its potential habitat on Creekside public land.

Activity:  planting food plant seedlings for Eltham Copper Butterfly (ECB)

Description: Connecting Country has funded us to establish one of the butterfly’s essential requirements: the Sweet Bursaria (Bursaria spinosa) plant.  The ECB caterpillars feed on Sweet Bursaria leaves.  You can read more about the complicated ECB lifestyle in the Connecting Country brochure.

Today we’ll attempt to plant and guard 50 more Sweet Bursaria seedlings.

Meet: here on the trail from Honeycomb Road for a 10:00 a.m. start.  There’s plenty of parking space here at the north end of Honeycomb Road.  It’s a 200 m walk from there to the meeting point.  If you arrive late, we’ll be working somewhere near here.

When:  10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m Sunday the 27th of April

Please bring:  Your own drinking water.  We’ll supply the tools and materials.

Wear: gardening/leather gloves, hat, and wear sturdy footwear and clothing suitable for the weather, which, seven days out, is forecast to be cool with little chance of rain.

We’ll finish up with light refreshments.

Hope to see you there!
