August 2025 National Tree Day working bee
August 24 @ 10:00 am - 1:30 pm
Activity: National Tree Day – Monster plant-out for platypus!
Description:
This year we will be celebrating National Tree Day with a planting along Campbells Creek to support local wildlife, especially the platypus.
Bring the whole family! There will be kids nature activities and a free lunch. The site is level and easily accessed.
Many thanks are due to Connecting Country for supporting this event along with the event sponsors listed below. We aim to plant several thousand plants along the new section of the trail through what used to be a blackberry infested goat paddock. All the plants are local species, well adapted to local conditions.
Where: Meet here, for a 10:00 a.m. start, just north of Princess St, Campbells Creek. You can park on Princess St: it’s only 140 metres from the meeting place. Alternatively, you may wish to cycle or walk in along the walking and cycling trail. There are many places to start if you want to travel the trail.
Please don’t drive vehicles into the unnamed street off Princess St. This is part of the trail and partly a private driveway.
If you arrive late, we’ll be working north/upstream/towards Castlemaine along the trail from the new bridge over the creek.
Please bring: Your own drinking water and if you can, a pick, mattock or Hamilton tree-planter to augment our supplies of tools.
Wear: gardening/leather gloves, hat, and wear sturdy footwear and clothing suitable for the weather. Gumboots might come in handy!
Afterwards there will be a free lunch, platypus information, displays showing how the creekside environment has changed over time, activities for children and more.
Hope to see you there!
Event sponsors: Community Bank Maldon and District, The Hub Foundation and Mount Alexander Shire Council.
