Working Bee – Planting below Alexandra Street
August 21, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Our group recently expanded our patch to include another 430 m of creekline
and surrounding public land downstream of Alexandra Street
<https://goo.gl/maps/HDgMMZEi2rwJTMh26> , Campbells Creek.
This area was neglected for decades, but we’ve had great success with
eradicating weeds of national significance like blackberry, gorse and crack
willow.
After several rounds of weed control, the site is now well prepared for
revegetation.
On this day, you can help us re-establish the missing understorey species!
We’ll be planting, staking and guarding shrubs and small trees
characteristic of creek flats on both sides of Campbells Creek. You can see
a list of the species we’ll be planting here
<http://focc.org.au/Listing/AlexandraCkFlats.html> . Following the links
there will take you to photos and descriptions.
As well as our normal netting tree guards. we’ll be using some of the
prickly plants we previously killed and felled to guard our seedlings
against grazing animals.
Meet here <https://goo.gl/maps/t5BD8NGfzGLA5Nhg9> at the west end of
National School Lane, Campbells Creek for a 10:00 a.m. start. There’s
plenty of space for car parking.
Wear leather gloves (important!), sturdy footwear (gumboots are advised) and
clothing suitable for the weather.
Bring your own drinking water if you need it. If you can, please bring a
bow saw or pruning saw.
We’ll supply everything else, including light refreshments afterwards.
Hope to see you there!
