Working Bee – Reveg Revival Stage 2
May 22, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Today we’ll be working on a lovely part of the creek in Castlemaine. Bird life here is abundant due to a good variety of habitats in reasonable quality. As well as a large pool in the creek, there are mature river red-gums and thanks to restoration efforts going back to 1986, plenty of understorey diversity. Council funded the removal of willows (and poplars) through this section so we should have no problems with European wasps!
There’ll be a range of things to do: we’ll be weeding strategically around our direct sown and planted revegetation, planting more Lomandra seedlings and sowing seed of tussock grasses and other herbs.
Meet: at the end of Cunnack Street Castlemaine for a 10:00 a.m. start. There’s plenty of car parking space. If you’re late, we’ll be upstream (east towards Castlemaine) along the trail 90 metres or so.
Wear: light gloves, sturdy clothing suited to the weather and footwear appropriate for wet ground.
Please bring: your own drinking water if needed. Feel free to bring your favourite light digging tool if you prefer weeding. A table knife is ideal.
We’ll supply: seed, seedlings, planting tools, weeding implements and bags for transporting weeds away from the site.
There’ll be light refreshments, coffee and tea around midday.
Hope to see you there!
