September 15 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Activity: 2024’s creekside planting at Lewis Swamp south.
Description: Please come along today to help us restore this creekside and wetland area adjacent to the trail.
With our help, this area is recovering as a “Creekline Grassy Woodland” type of vegetation, listed as an endangered community in Victoria (on page 5 in that URL’s document). Because Campbells Creek has permanent flows from this site and downstream, the environment here can also support vegetation typical of larger waterways.
Today we’ll be planting river bottlebrush, river tea-tree and eight other species, all characteristic of creekbanks. Supported by funding from the North Central CMA, this should be our last major planting in this part of our creekside environment.
Meet at the Lewis Drive carpark, Castlemaine for a 10:00 a.m. start. This is just past the entrance to the Salvage Yard and Good Op Shop businesses. If you arrive late, we’ll be working from there downstream.
Wear: gloves, sturdy footwear (gumboots advisable) and clothing suitable for the weather. It will be really useful if you can bring waders or a wetsuit, and even more so if you are prepared to get in the creek: it’s much easier planting without bending over!
Bring your own drinking water if you need it.
We’ll provide everything else, including light refreshments afterwards.
Hope to see you there!
