SUMMARY:November Working Bee
DESCRIPTION:This Sunday\, 12th November\, we’ll be consolidating (and celebrating) the eradication of the last sizable population of crack willow (Salix fragilis—a weed of national significance) in ‘our’ patch. \nThis is in the interesting wetland area south of Lewis Drive.  Lately it’s been the site of much activity designed to improve the environment: \n\nColiban Water\, in response to our request\, are remodelling the point of discharge of treated effluent. We’ll be able to view progress of this work.\nthe North Central Catchment Management Authority’s contractors Djandak\, have felled\, poisoned and burnt twenty or more crack willows and cleaned up huge piles of flood debris.\n\nThere will be almost certainly be some fallen live twigs of willow that could take root—we’ll be trying to remove all of them.  We’ll also be targeting another pernicious weed of our waterways: Phalaris (Phalaris aquatica—which deserves to be another weed of national significance!) where it threatens to encroach on our revegetation. \nPlease wear gloves\, sturdy footwear and clothing suitable for the weather. \nBring: your own water and\, if you can\, a mattock or hoe. \nWe’ll supply the rest including refreshments. \nMeet at: Lewis Drive carpark for a 10:00 a.m. start. This is just past the entrance to the Salvage Yard and Good Op Shop businesses. \nIf you arrive late\, walk downstream along the trail; we’ll be working somewhere between here and the footbridge here. \nHope to see you there!
