May 2025 working bee for platypus

May 25, 2025 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Activity:  Planting for platypus!

Description:

This is our first scheduled working bee dedicated to the new $200,000 Commonwelath funded project which aims to improve habitat quality for the platypus population that lives in Campbells Creek.

Today we’ll work near the bridge and new trail to continue the planting effort started by neighbours last week.  As well as restoring habitat, we’re hoping to make the place look great for the June 21st official launch and renaming of the newly finished trail.

Meet: here on the trail for a 10:00 a.m. start.  It’s only a 140 m walk in from Princess Street where there’s plenty of car parking space (car parking is unavailable at the meeting place).  It’s 3.6 km along the trail if you’re coming from Forest Street in Castlemaine.

If you arrive late, we’ll be working near the new bridge over the creek.

When:  10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Sunday the 25th of May

Please bring:  Your own drinking water and if you can, a pick or mattock: that will help our supply of tools to dig in the heavily compacted ground left by the contractors’ machinery.

Wear: gardening/leather gloves, hat, and wear sturdy footwear and clothing suitable for the weather.  We’ll be working at the edge of the creek, so gumboots might come in handy!

We’ll finish up with light refreshments.

Hope to see you there!
