SUMMARY:Working bee
DESCRIPTION:Spear Grass Valley and Lewis Rise revisited\nPlease come for a walk through some rarely visited areas of our restoration efforts with a little maintenance work to help heal this part of the Country.  We’ll be recovering and repositioning tree guards\, and dealing with priority weeds. \nMount Alexander Shire Council as manager &/or owner of the land we’ll be working on has organized some successful control of the noxious weed gorse.  We’ll hunt down the plants that were missed (there’s always some!) and hoe them out before they can set seed.  On our walkthrough\, we’re also likely to encounter bridal creeper.  Like gorse\, it’s a weed of national significance: both are very invasive and outcompete desirable native vegetation. \nSome of our revegetation is now tall enough to do without tree guards\, so we’ll be salvaging them for future re-use.  Some guards though have fallen over or been crushed by the now numerous kangaroos frequenting this area as they lose their usual territory to urbanisation.  To give the surviving plants a chance to mature\, we’ll be repairing and repositioning the guards. \nMeet:\nAt the informal carpark here  at the north end of Honeycomb Road for a 10:00 a.m. start.  If you arrive late\, we’ll be working somewhere between the carpark and here in the north\, or ‘Lewis Rise’ in the north-east. \nWhen:\n10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Sunday the 16th of June \nPlease bring:\nYour own drinking water and if you can\, hammer\, wire cutters or pliers.  We’ll supply the rest. \nWear:\nGardening/leather gloves\, hat and\, sturdy footwear and clothing suitable for the weather. \nWe’ll finish up with light refreshments. \nHope to see you there!
