July 2025 National Tree Day working bee

July 27 @ 10:00 am - 1:30 pm

Activity:  Monster plant-out for platypus!

Description:

This is our BIG planting day dedicated to the new $200,000 Commonwealth funded project which aims to improve habitat quality for the platypus population that lives in Campbells Creek.  Many thanks are due to Connecting Country for helping with this event.  With that help we aim to plant about 3,500 plants today.  Most of these will line both sides of the newly finished trail which traverses what used to be a goat paddock.

Where: Meet here for a 10:00 a.m. start, just north of Princess St, Campbells Creek.  You can park on Princess St:  it’s only 140 metres from the meeting place.  Alternatively, you may wish to cycle or walk in along the walking and cycling trail.  There are many places to start if you want to travel the trail.

If you arrive late, we’ll be working north/upstream/towards Castlemaine along the trail from the new bridge over the creek.

Please bring:  Your own drinking water and if you can, a pick, mattock or Hamilton tree-planter to augment our supplies of tools.

Wear: gardening/leather gloves, hat, and wear sturdy footwear and clothing suitable for the weather.  Gumboots might come in handy!

Afterwards there will be a free lunch, platypus information, displays showing how the creekside environment has changed over time, music,  activities for children and more.

Hope to see you there!
